Downswing - When to Release

In your golf swing, obviously you want all the power you generate to be transferred to the ball. This means you need all the power you generate to be at the bottom of the swing ? at the ball or after it. There are all types of golf gadgets out there that promote this thought. One thing you can do for free is hold your club upside down and swing it with the grip end where the ball would be. Take a couple practice swings and listen to where the ?swish? sound is. Ideally, the swish sound should begin at the ball and finish a foot or so after it.

For me, my swing thought is don't start hitting until your hands pass your waist on the downswing. Do not begin releasing the club until then. Keep your wrists cocked until your hands get below your waist and then freely let them go with all you got.

Here is a picture of Karrie Webb to illustrate this move:

Notice how she keeps her wrists cocked until they get to her waist. That is quite an angle to maintain that far into the downswing ? this is where you get power and accuracy.
