Isn't That Pretty!

Screenshot:

Click here or on that screenshot and you will see all the golf courses that are within a reasonable driving distance from me. Don't forget to click on the little map markers as well. It is not perfect: because of freeway traffic areas, there are actually a few courses out of reach on the map and a few courses in reach but not shown but overall it is what I pictured a month ago when I started this project. Still a work in progress, I have a few more improvements up my sleeve and as mentioned a couple posts ago I am going to be using different color map pins to represent private or public courses. Also some cities are not working right and some courses are still missing but I should be able to clean all that up very soon. Almost all of it is working though - just a handful of courses too new to be on the map are causing problems, etc.

Once again though, I have to say that I am just ecstatic at how slick this came out. Thought of it, worked it every moment I could, and finally got to see the results of it for the first time tonight and just love it - reality is so unreal! Once it actually started working I decided to leave and take a break and then found myself just standing behind my computer chair here staring at it for a good 10 minutes. I was so pleased and amazed that it actually worked...

If you are from California, click here, find the golf courses you know and click the public or private button - thanks!

- and big thanks to all of you that already did!

If you're not from Cali, you can still go here and choose a city that you have heard of and check out all the clustered golf courses - each city page should work like that screenshot of Simi Valley above - (about 450 cities in Cali - accuracy not verified yet)

If you are from another part of the country hold short. I am going to add in all the golf courses and zip codes from the rest of the nation as well starting about two weeks from now (once I finish all the coding for CA).
The rest of the world is on my list as well but we'll just have to wait and see if I'm up for it.. I have a feeling that by the time the USA is completed, I'll have officially lost all grip on reality, and the thought of data entry for every golf course in the world by country might - but then again, why not - once you've gone that far; what is another 50 thousand pb&j's..?

PS I pulled an all nighter last Thursday working on this stuff but still managed to play in my normal Friday foursome. I was so tired and zipped up on coffee I shot a 45 on the front at Tierra Rejada. Learned that I cannot putt or chip at all when shaky from too much caffeine with no breakfast or sleep: next important golf day = no caffeine. I think I would have scored better just being super sleepy. Anyway, half a tuna sand on the 5th from the cart girl and a few Gatorades later, I shot a respectable 36 from the blue tees on the back nine for an 81 - Tierra is a tough course for me and I've never broken 80 there so that is good stuff! Shooting that inward 36 will bring me back to Tierra... <squinting>Heck yeah Pedro, it's... incredible! </squinting>
