Knollwood CC Rained Out

Played at Knollwood Country Club today with the golf club I am in.

First time I have played golf since September and I pick a tournament to start.

Rain was predicted and was there the entire round. Actually we only made it through 12 holes when they decided to cancel the tournament because the weather was so bad. We were given the option of course to finish the round just for the fun of it - No thanks. By then it was as if everyone had jumped into a swimming pool, with their golf bag - and then tried to play. Grips, gloves, towels, pants, shirts, glasses, all soaked. There was no way to dry the grips - or your hands on anything. Smearing your glasses on your shirt before each shot. You know how it is. I don't know how the pros do it; oh yeah I do, they have caddies. I found walking kept you dryer than riding in a cart and would try and walk with an umbrella whenever I could. On the 10th hole play was a little backed up so I stood there and took each club out of my bag and did my best to dry the grips off with towel #2. So that was one time when slow play in front seemed to help.

I played pretty good for the first time back.
Never three putted
Never hit a shot fat
Never lost a ball
Greens were punched and sanded so chips and putts were a little odd.

I parred the first 3 holes, then on #4 it took me three to get out of a simple greenside bunker. Other than that play was erratic because of slippery grips. As Eric mentioned after the round, the secret is don't overswing - take an extra club and swing easy so you can hold the club. Had some good birdie chances by the way but none dropped.

Here is a quick summary of the day for the next time I play there:

All in all I had a great time, was pleased with my rusty play, was paired with a fun group, and look forward to next month's tournament. Golf in the rain is better than no golf at all!

PS I took a picture of each hole as it looks from the tee box but somehow deleted everything on my camera - bummer! - Maybe it performs poorly in the rain as well!
