Taylor Made 360 Ti 9.5 degree with a regular shaft. Wow, at first I loved it. After hitting a bunch of balls on the range with it the ball seemed to always be near my target - not near as far as the big swing it took for the 975d but who cares - the fairway is my priority. With this driver I could swing real easy and let the shaft do the work.
Wrong
It turns out you need to have a very good swing to consistently hit a shaft with too much flex. When I got out on the course it was a nightmare. The other day, when I was on the range, I went through every iron in my bag and hit about 10 real nice 5 irons before I decided to hit some drives. Picked up this regular shaft driver and with the same smooth 5 iron swing hooked everything. Bad hooks too, like snap hooks - not pulls, not duck hooks, but definitely not fairway style drives. After several balls I got my swing to the point where I could hit the driver nice - but then went back to my 5 iron and had big problems.
The answer??
Since I changed my grip I probably swing the club a lot slower and with less snap. So I think I need a shaft somewhere in between the extra stiff and the regular. I love my 975D and considered swapping out the shaft for a stiff. But then I checked out the sweet sweet goodness of ebay and found the exact same Titleist 975D 8.5* Driver I have with the same Titleist Ultralight 65 graphite shaft with a stiff shaft instead of the extra stiff. Buy it now cost = $74.99. That is probably cheaper than it would cost me to re-shaft my existing driver. This gives me two identical drivers to practice with and determine which shaft works best for me. The driver with the shaft I don't like will just go back on ebay for $75 - no brainer.
Once I figure out which shaft is for me and my current swing, I will pick up a matching 975d 3 wood with the same shaft.
PS ? I also noticed ebay had my $425 great big bertha 6.5* buy it now for $39.00 ? OUCH, these clubs depreciate even faster than my computer equipment!
